Service Areas

Serving all of Connecticut & New England.

From our home base in the northwest hills, we restore historic masonry across the state, and travel throughout New England for the right project.

Who we are

Champs Masonry & Chimney is a historic restoration and preservation company based in Winsted, in the heart of Connecticut’s Litchfield County. We are not a high-volume chimney sweep. Our work is the careful, traditional craft that antique homes, churches, landmarks, and historic commercial buildings actually need.

Connecticut and New England are full of homes built long before Portland cement and clay flue tile, laid up with soft lime mortar over hand-stacked stone foundations. Those buildings were designed to breathe and to last for centuries, roughly a hundred years between repointings on a well-built wall, if the work is done right. Sealing them up with modern hard cement traps moisture and slowly destroys the very brick and stone it’s meant to protect. We do it the way it was meant to be done.

Our specialties are stone foundation restoration, lime mortar repointing, antique fireplace and chimney restoration, and full-envelope landmark preservation, all in breathable, period-correct materials. We hand-dig stone foundations rather than excavate them, run mortar tests before we repoint, and reuse original materials wherever we can, because a historic home is a living, breathing piece of history worth protecting.

We work throughout Connecticut and travel across New England for landmark and antique projects. Wherever you are, every job starts with a free, no-obligation on-site evaluation and an honest assessment of what your masonry actually needs.
